When and where
Overview
The Sakhalin Salmon Initiative International (SSI) Conference successfully launched the SSI, a public-private partnership initiative to promote conservation and sustainable use of wild salmon and salmon ecosystems and to build institutional capacity for conservation on Sakhalin. The conference convened over 200 representatives of government, academia, local and indigenous communities, non-governmental organizations, fishing and extractive industries and international organizations and institutions. Six working group sessions discussed and modified action plans for the SSI's future activities in six project areas. The conference resolutions are currently being prepared and should be signed by the end of 2006, after which they will be available at this site. Please follow the links on this page to review conference highlights.
Sponsors
The SSI International Conference would not have been possible without the support of founding sponsor Sakhalin Energy Investment Company, the Sakhalin Regional Administration, Trust for Mutual Understanding, the Oak Foundation, and British Petroleum.
