Regional Overview

Nestled in the Western Oregon's Coast Range, the priority watersheds for salmonids include the Nehalem, Salmonberry, Kilchis, Trask, Tillamook, Miami, and Wilson rivers. This Region includes the Tillamook State Forest, one of the largest expanses of contiguous rainforest in the lower 48 states. The area is home to some of the most diverse and genetically intact salmonid populations and is a fish and forest conservation priority.

In a collaborative effort, the Wild Salmon Center is conducting an assessment to identify and map the best potential habitat for steelhead, chinook, chum, and coho. This assessment will help inform the designation of permanent reserves on State forest land and other conservation actions in the region.
