Russian Far East Sustainable Fisheries WorkshopNovember, 2007
Russian fishermen
On November 13 - 14, 2007 the Wild Salmon Center co-hosted a workshop with the World Wildlife Fund titled "Exploring market incentives for salmon conservation and sustainable fisheries in the Russian Far East." Chaired by Mr. Mike Sutton, Vice President for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, we assembled leading experts in the field from Russia, the US, and Europe to explore innovative market based approaches to supporting sustainable fisheries. Measures we discussed included third party certification, direct buyer agreements, catch shares and other supply side measures that can reward best management practices for salmon fisheries as well as help secure jobs, nutrition, and ecosystem services for Russia and the world.
